2022 Will Be a Banner Year for YOUR NPMA
SCOTT STECKEL, Plunkett's Pest Control, Inc.
It’s the start of a new year, and I’m very excited for great things in 2022.
First, a quick look back. PestWorld 2021 is in the books! In every way, it was an extremely successful event. First and foremost, there was an overwhelming feeling of reunion and connection—it was incredibly beneficial to join together in person and network with other industry professionals. Attendance numbers were very strong, with over 3,500 total attendees, well above the 2019 conference, and there was a robust exhibit hall as well. Add to that the over-the-top excitement of Las Vegas itself, and it was truly an event not to be forgotten.
One overwhelming issue that was mentioned repeatedly in PestWorld sessions was the labor shortage that’s happening across the country in every industry, pest management included. The Great Resignation is real, and it may have already affected your business. Fortunately, NPMA was ahead of the curve, and has already developed the Workforce Development Program, a far-reaching program that encourages potential job seekers to learn about opportunities in the industry. The program provides a forum to post jobs—creating a pipeline of potential skilled workers—and provides tools and resources for employers to hire and retain those workers. All NPMA members receive a free 60-day job posting, and companies who pledge their support will get increased benefits, including complimentary postings. Don’t miss this chance to support your industry by participating in this program.
This issue of PestWorld highlights current legislative challenges at a national and state level, with NPMA’s comprehensive plan to impact policy. One related and important event happening soon is NPMA Legislative Day in Washington, DC—members will convene from March 13-15 to meet with Congressional members and staff to provide our perspective and our voice on the issues we face as an industry. Legislative Day is an excellent opportunity to participate in the legislative process—I encourage all members to join us in this important endeavor.
2022 should prove to be a banner year for NPMA and our members. We look forward to continuing to broaden our reach and provide even better events and benefits to members in the new year.
