Dear IPM House Friends:
For anyone who has considered becoming an Associate Certified Entomologist, but feels a little intimidated about the exam, this next IPM House class is for you. On December 12 and 13 we are offering a two-day ACE prep class at the Texas A&M AgriLife facility in Dallas. Preregistration cost is $60 and you can register online here https://agriliferegister.tamu.edu/productListingDetails/2996
The ACE prep class is especially designed to help anyone prepare for the ACE exam; but it also provides a broad introduction to the science behind pest control. We have found that even new technicians can benefit from the class as it provides a comprehensive review of common structural insect pests and their biology.
The course outline provides a concise, well-rounded overview of the science of entomology and of the major pests that a PMP must know for the ACE exam. There is 10+ hours of intensive classroom training and lab training with microscopes. You do not have to be pre-approved as an ACE candidate to take the Prep Class; however, it does serve as an excellent review and confidence booster for candidates who have been preparing for the exam. The exam will be offered at the end of the class to anyone who has applied for certification and paid the examination fee. Students wanting to sit for the exam are responsible for making arrangements with ESA prior to the class.
Class topics include:
• Introduction to the ACE program • Intro to insect biology, morphology and classification • Ants: Inspection and identification • Biting and stinging pests: Inspection and identification • Cockroaches: Inspection and identification • Flies: Inspection and identification • Occasional invaders: Inspection and identification • Stored product pests: Inspection and identification • Wood destroying insects: Inspection and identification • Integrated pest management concepts • The science of insecticides • Pesticides safety, laws and labels • Laboratory identifications: ants, stored product pests, others.
What is the ACE program?
